Michaela Foster Marsh is a Scottish–Canadian singer-songwriter, author, and mythic storyteller whose work moves between music, literature, and lived experience. Her creative voice explores love and loss, grief and transformation, and the power of storytelling to restore meaning and connection.
She has released three internationally distributed albums, including I Undid Orion’s Belt, recorded in Toronto with Juno Award–winning producer Greg Kavanagh. Her music has been featured in major television and film productions including Dawson’s Creek, The Matthew Shepard Story, and Breaking Amish. Michaela has performed at the Monaco International Film Festival and the Festival de Cannes, and was honoured to sing privately for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Balmoral Castle.
Michaela is the author of the internationally published memoir Starchild, which chronicles her journey to Uganda to find the biological family of her adopted brother eighteen years after his death. The book is currently being adapted into a feature documentary, The Music Within directed by BAFTA Award–winning filmmaker Alex McCall.
She is also the founder and Executive Director of the Starchild Charity, established in memory of her brother and late partner. The charity serves vulnerable children and families in Uganda and Scotland, including the creation of a School for Creative Arts in Vvumba, Uganda, and a holistic centre supporting autism and disability in Scotland. Her humanitarian work has received numerous honours, including a Prime Minister’s Award and recognition as a finalist for Scotswoman of the Year.
Her current projects include The Matoke Tree, a literary novel exploring race and belonging; Sunflowers at Christmas, a memoir of love and loss; and Orion, a mythological rock opera based on her original music and libretto.
Across all disciplines, Michaela Foster Marsh’s work transforms personal experience into art, creating spaces where story, music, and meaning converge.
Songs, stories and spaces where grief, grace, and everyday life are allowed to sit together without needing to be resolved.
